Looking east towards the desert behind the fire lookout tower on Hot Springs Mountain

Cuyamaca Peak can be seen from all around San Diego, it is the 2nd tallest peak in San Diego County, Hot Springs Mountain has it beat by 20 feet or so. Unlike Cuyamaca Peak, you can’t see Hot Springs Mountain unless your close by, its tucked away, up in the north eastern section of the county, about 20-30 minutes north of Julian and Santa Ysabel, looming over the small town of Warner Springs. There are two different routes to the old fire lookout tower, I decided to take the more secluded route that takes off from Nelsons Camp.
